Description

Idealistic tropes associated with womanhood, both proper and volatile, can be seen in print culture as early as the 15th century in Western canonical societal interpretations, where we also see the emergence of the lasting societal fear towards nonconforming gender roles. Feminine subjects in art historical canon were often inextricably tied to the hierarchical interpretations of men, and those practices often persisted throughout history until the turn of the early twentieth century.
